Dear Players- Last month we rolled out some new flexible play formats in order to conform to the state’s and many local counties’ restrictions on recreational sports. It was our hope that we would be able to kick off the new year with our traditional league programming. We are, however, still facing the same local restrictions on leagues, and as you know COVID cases are back on the rise. For these reasons we will be moving forward with another season of our flexible formats in January. We intend on hosting postseason play opportunities for all of our flex programs – pending local guidelines. As of now, the plan is to resume traditional leagues in March. Some of our league seasons may be shortened so we can fit them into the 2021 calendar, but we will do our best to preserve as much of our regular league programming as possible. Keep an eye out for emails from your Area League Coordinators. They will be reaching out within the next couple of weeks with information on the flex options that will be offered in their areas. We are not alone in this. USTA NorCal has also opted to start 2021 with flex options. They too are aiming to start traditional leagues in March. Other sections face their own set of problems – with limited winter indoor court time and local guidelines that require masks to be worn while matches are being played. We have filed an application with the State of California to receive an official variance for tennis so we can move forward with our traditional programming in 2021. As we wait to hear back, we will continue to advocate for our sport at the local levels and impose the strictest safety guidelines for our programs. Player safety is our top priority. We know everyone wants to get back to our regular programming. Believe us, we do too. We are committed to bringing you the programs you love as soon as reasonably possible. Thank you for hanging in there with us, SoCal. USTA Southern California

USTA SoCal League Players

USTA Southern California has come to the difficult decision to cancel our traditional league programming for the Fall and our 2020 Sectional Championships. While we have recently seen a loosening of restrictions in some parts of Southern California, most of our local communities currently do not support the traditional league formats. Since March, it has been our sincere hope that we would be able to restart our regular league programming before year’s end. We have spent the last few months advocating for doubles and tennis leagues at the state and local level, and we have made progress in pockets across the section. However, with only a few viable weeks left for competition and facility readiness at less than 50% section-wide, we must push off traditional league programming until January 2021. As in most other industries navigating this pandemic, we have had to get creative. We are pleased to tell you that we have created two new flexible play formats that will conform to most local guidelines. If you are interested in playing competitive tennis this fall, please fill out the form below by October 9th. We have included the new format descriptions at the bottom of this email. If you do not wish to participate, you do not have to do anything from here. A credit will be applied to your TennisLink account by the end of October. Credits can only be used on league registrations in Southern California and will expire in November 2021. Refunds are also available, but please note they will be issued via PayPal and you will only receive your league fee of $27 (there is a $3 non-refundable processing fee). We appreciate all of our players who have waited patiently for updates and helped us advocate for tennis at the state and local levels over the past six months. Thank you for being a part of our USTA Southern California family. We hope to see you on the courts in the next few weeks, but if not, we look forward to 2021 and our return to USTA League Tennis.  Please feel free to reply to this email with any questions. We will respond as quickly as possible. ~The USTA SoCal Staff  Best,Debbie Halim   ~   Michelle Kramer  310-779-0811       818-425-0376  USTA Los Angeles Area League Coordinatorshttp://laleaguecoordinator.com.
